How do I sign up for MySchoolBucks?
Go to www.myschoolbucks.com. Click “Register Here for a Free Account.”
Choose “Virginia,” then “Louisa County Board of Education.”
Enter your information to register. After you have created an account, click “My Household” then “Add Student,” to bring all of your school-aged children into one account. You will need the student ID number or birthday of each student to add them to your account.
How much does MySchoolBucks cost?
There is no charge to set up your family's account, monitor balances
or review purchase history. However, when transferring funds to accounts, Heartland Payment Systems
charges a $2.50 fee for each transaction for each student's account involved. If you want to add funds to the accounts of two children, the fee will total $5.
How much of these fees does Louisa County Public Schools collect?
There is no financial benefit to our school system or our individual schools. All of the fees collected go to Heartland Payment Services, the vendor who provides the service and handles all financial transactions through the site.
What if I don't want to pay online?
You are not required to pay online. Cash and checks will continue to be accepted at your child's cafeteria, as they always have been. Parents can use the system to monitor balances or purchases without incurring fees.
What is the LCPS Student Wellness Policy?
I. Policy Statement
The Louisa County School Board recognizes the link between student health and learning and desires to provide a comprehensive program promoting healthy eating and physical activity in division students.
The Louisa County School Board has established the following goals to promote student wellness.
A. Nutrition Education
Students receive nutrition education that teaches the skills they need to adopt and maintain healthy eating behaviors addressing all aspects of a healthy nutritional program for all children will be emphasized, i.e. obesity, diabetes, eating disorders.
Nutrition education is offered in the school cafeteria as well as in the classroom, with coordination between the food service staff and other school personnel, including teachers.
Students receive consistent nutrition messages from all aspects of the school program.
Division health education curriculum standards and guidelines address both nutrition and physical education.
Nutrition is integrated into the health education or core curricula (e.g., math, science, language arts).
Schools link nutrition education activities with the coordinated school health program.
Staff who provide nutrition education have appropriate training.
The level of student participation in the school breakfast and school lunch programs is appropriate.
Schools are enrolled as Team Nutrition Schools, and they conduct nutrition education activities and promotions that involve parents, students, and the community.
B. Physical activity
The Louisa County school division has a goal of making a program of physical fitness available to all students for at least 150 minutes per week on average during the regular school year. Such programs may include any combination of physical education classes, extracurricular activities, and other programs and physical activities.
Students are given opportunities for physical activity during the school day through physical education (PE) classes, daily recess periods for elementary school students, and the integration of physical activity into the academic curriculum where appropriate.
Students are given opportunities for physical activity through a range of before- and/or after-school programs including, but not limited to, intramural, interscholastic athletics, and physical activity clubs.
Schools encourage parents and guardians to support their children's participation in physical activity, to be physically active role models, and to include physical activity in family events.
Schools provide training to enable staff to promote enjoyable, lifelong physical activity among students.
C. Other school-based activities
An adequate amount of time is allowed for students to eat meals in adequate lunchroom facilities.
All children who participate in subsidized food programs are able to obtain food in a non-stigmatizing manner.
Environmentally-friendly practices such as the use of locally grown and seasonal foods, school gardens have been considered and implemented where appropriate.
Physical activities and/or nutrition services or programs designed to benefit staff health have been considered and, to the extent practical, implemented.
The division will ensure that food and beverage sales during the school day by school-related groups and the use of vending machines are in compliance with state and federal law and do not impair student participation in the district's food service program.
Sanitation and safety procedures shall comply with the requirements of the Virginia Department of Health.
D. Nutrition Guidelines
Nutrition guidelines have been selected by the division for all foods available on every school campus during the school day. The objectives of the guidelines are to promote a healthy nutritional program for all children to meet specific needs. The guidelines are based on nutrition goals and not profit motives.
All food available to students on school premises during the school day, including food sold by the Food Service Department, will be of good nutritional value.
Vending machines that contain food or beverages that do not meet the district nutritional standards shall remain locked or be rendered inoperable during the school day.
Nutritional standards for the school breakfast and school lunch programs that meet or exceed state and federal standards are in place.
The division will promote nutrition through school activities and include students, staff and community.
The nutritional content of foods and beverages donated for class parties or other school events is considered.
School-based marketing of foods and beverages, such as through advertisements in school publications, school buildings, athletic fields, and/or other areas accessible to students, and activities such as incentive programs, has been considered.
The implementation of this policy will be monitored and evaluated in accordance with procedures established by the Superintendent. Regulations related to this policy will be reviewed annually by a committee appointed by the Director of Pupil Personnel. This committee will be comprised of administrators, teachers, students and community members. Appointments to the committee will be for a two-year term. Changes to the regulations will be posted.
